Strong Finish
for Boys Rugby
The CDG Boys Rugby Team concluded their season with a show of power
over cross-town Abbotsford Middle School. Our boys entered the
game needing to win by more than five points in order to make the
playoffs. They brought their best effort with obvious urgency and
a balanced team attack, one that was difficult for their opponents to
thwart. However, in the end, the Wolves’ victory was short 3
points as they defeated Abby Middle by a score of 15-12 and were thus
forced to hang up their boots as their season came to an end.
The boys would like to acknowledge and thank the efforts and help of
many volunteers who made their season a success. Thanks to Mrs. Howard
and her wonderful staff of TA’s and students who freely washed the
uniforms prior to each game. During the rugby team’s power raking
fundraiser on Saturday’s in April, Mr. Bowley, Mr. Klim and Mr. Buki
benevolently offered their time on the weekend to help with the raking
and disposal of moss. Mr. McTaggart supplied the team with field
paint to keep it in playing order.
Coach Laudadio would especially like to thank two individuals without
whose help he would have been lost in organizing and running the power
raking fundraiser: Mrs. Hollanti answered to and organized requests
while keeping the books for the team, and Mr. Lilly, the brainchild of
the fundraiser, gave his weekends to work with all the crews, running
the machine and teaching us how to properly landscape. For four
years now these two individuals have worked hard to help the team
raise thousands without any other involvement in the team.
Millions of thanks, we are forever in your debt.
GRADE 5
TRANSITION
Last Wednesday, May 3rd, Chief Dan George hosted 220 grade 5
students from many elementary schools in the Abbotsford School
District. These students plan to be Chief Dan George Middle
School students this coming September. This event was held to
help make the transition for our grade 5 students as smooth as
possible. Our future grade 6 students played in the gym and
toured the school at different intervals throughout the morning.
It was a huge success. Thank you to all our Peer Mentors from our
grade 7 classes for their help and support in making this event such a
success.
Grade 6 student, Michelle K. participated in the Historica Fair at UCFV
on May 5-6. She was the sole representative for Chief Dan George
School and her project was entitled “My Grandfather’s Immigration”,
which chronicles her grandfather’s immigration from Ireland to
Canada. As a result of Michelle participating in the Historica
Fair, the MSA museum had donated a couple of class sets of French
Canadian History Books in Michelle’s honour to CDG. Thank you
Michelle and congratulations for your good work.

CONGRATULATIONS
MS. COLLIER!
Vice Principal Ms. P. Collier has been named as the new
Principal of Mt. Lehman Elementary for the upcoming school year.
Ms. Collier joined our staff last September after a one year hiatus
from administration to care for her new daughter. She had been
vice principal of Abbotsford Junior/Middle for the three years
leading up to her maternity leave. Ms. Collier is very excited
about her new challenge. In the short time that she has been at
this school she has had a significant positive impact on the students
and staff. We wish her all the best in her new position and thank
her for all her good work. Ms. Collier's replacement will be Ms.
Kathy Fladager. Ms. Fladager has spent the last year at the district
level as a Helping Teacher at the Grade 3,4, and 5 level with a focus
on Early Literacy. She has an extensive background in curriculum and
has provided leadership in the areas of science, mathematics,
social studies and language arts. Prior to that Ms. Fladager
taught for ten years at Upper Sumas Elementary and had a temporary
appointment as Acting Principal prior to her district
appointment. This summer she is the Principal of the Summer
School Enhancement programs in our district. We are sad to say
goodbye to Ms. Collier but happy that we have a very capable
replacement in Ms. Fladager.

hope you plan to join us in our celebration of Wolves athletics on
Friday, June 16th!

pm each day for four consecutive days beginning Friday, June
23rd. Staff will be available for afternoon consultation
and meetings each of those days. Please contact your child's
teacher if you wish to arrange a day and time to meet.
Last Day in
session
Our school's last day in session will be Wednesday, June 28th. We
will hold our annual Year End Awards ceremony beginning at 10:00 am on
that day. Thursday, June 29th and Friday, June 30th are
non-instructional days at the school and classes will not be in session.
>
REPORT CARD
ISSUE
Report cards will be issued on Friday, June 30th in our
multi-purpose room beginning at 9:00 am and running until 2:30
pm. Report cards will be held back if students have been issued
notice of payment for lost texts or library books and those fees have
not been paid. Any report cards not picked up on Friday, June
30th will be available in the school office the following week (i.e.
July 2nd to 7th). If reports are not picked up by July 7th they
will be sent home via Canada Post.
ARRANGING CLASSES
FOR NEXT YEAR
We are very limited with space in a number of our programs. We
have waiting lists in our English track program. Regardless of
your child's program, if your child is in Grade 6 or 7 and you have not
yet informed the school that they will not be returning next September
please contact our office immediately to let us know.
Grade 8
farewell activities
Two activities have been planned as celebrations of Grade 8
students leaving their middle school experience behind them and
entering high school in September. The first will be an afternoon event
at Trans Canada Water slides on the afternoon of Thursday, June
22nd. Students will need to complete a permission form and make a
monetary contribution for transportation and entrance to the park
before they are eligible to attend. Grade 8 students and their
teachers and parent supervisors will leave the school at 11:30 am on
that day and will return just after 5:00 pm. Also, the following
Monday evening, June 26th we are providing an opportunity for students
to come to the school in the evening to enjoy a meal with their
teachers, view a slide show and finish off the night with a dance run
by a local professional deejay. Given that we have limited
space in our gym we are only able to offer the opportunity to the Grade
8 students themselves. The cost for evening is only $7.00.
The sit down meal will be catered by Wolf Catering, under the
supervision of Home Arts teacher Mr. Paul Lilly.
French
Immersion 8 Trip to Québec
Our French Immersion 8 team enjoyed a wonderful trip to
Québec this year and we arrived home safe and exhausted from a
French-filled week of fun and learning. The Grade 8 FI teachers would
like to thank the students for being so well-behaved and for providing
a lot of good laughs and great memories. We would also like to thank
all of the parents for their support and their help in ensuring that
this year's trip was a success. A special thanks goes out to Jody
Lester and Susan Ward-Hall for chaperoning the trip with us and for
their diligence in learning some French! We are very proud of the way
that our students represented us and our school and received many
comments and compliments on their attitude and behavior from start to
finish. Merci beaucoup!
4th annual
chess tournament
This year's focus was on school teams as we did not allow for
individuals to enter the tournament. However, we still had 153 students
participate.
Chief Dan George did very well winning first and second in the middle
school portion of the event. None of our players ranked individually in
the top three, but our team did very well as most of our members took 3
or more wins out of 5 games.
Meghan Meyer
was recently named to the Whitecaps U-13 Y-League Soccer team as goal
keeper. She was the only Abbotsford player to be chosen, out of
over 200 players picked up for all age groups (U-12-U17). Nicole
Meyer was accepted as only 1 of 2 Abbotsford players onto the U-14
Inter-Provincial Soccer League for the Fraser Valley.
Breakfast
Program wraps up for another school year
For the second year in a row we have had the great fortune to be
supported by three local churches in providing a hot breakfast free of
charge to our students three days per week. Volunteers from New
Life Church on Delair Road, Northview Church on Downes Road, and
Gladwin Heights United Church adjacent to our school arrived at 6:30 am
on their designated day to prepare the food. Our students
had the benefit of a hearty breakfast and a welcoming smile from the
volunteers that attended. What a great way to start a school
day! We also want to acknowledge our Pit Stop (school
canteen) coordinator Mrs. Kerri Lynn Chartier who volunteered
many hours this year to assist the volunteers who worked the breakfast
program. The breakfast program will wrap up next week. There will
not be a breakfast available next Monday but breakfasts will be
available next Wednesday, June 14th and Friday, June 16th.
LAST PAC
MEETING OF THE YEAR
Our last P.A.C. meeting of this school year will take place on
Tuesday, evening June 13th. We will be saying good bye to some of
the members of our Executive given that next year they will not have a
child at this school. Our gratitude will be expressed to Mrs.
Sandi Irving (President) and Ms. Susan Trithardt
(Treasurer) who have supported the school tremendously this year and
their service will be greatly missed.
Year End Band
Concert
Our final Band/Music concert of the year will take place on Monday
evening, June 19th at Central Heights Church beginning at 7:00
pm. Please try and make arrangements to attend this highlight
event of the year.
School Dance

Almost 500 of our students participated in the second Student
Leadership sponsored dance of the year last Friday.
Hundreds of food items and over $100 in cash was donated by students at
the door. The food items donated went to the
Abbotsford Food Bank. The money will be used to support our adopted
African child through the summer.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank all the students,
parents, and staff from Chief Dan George Middle School for such a
fabulous year. Thank you for the warm welcome in September and
the support that I received throughout the year from so many of
you. What a truly wonderful school and community it is
here. There are so many positive things going on in this building
for students and it was truly a pleasure and privilege to be part of
it. My experience here has been positive and rewarding and I
take what I have learned here on to my new school this coming
September. All the best to you and your family now and in the
future. Have an enjoyable summer. - Ms. P. Collier.
2006 Racing
Season Update - June 16, 2006 - Report from Drag Racing Club
Today, things didn't look good at all. Weather reports indicated
rain and the clouds overhead confirmed the inevitable. Even Environment
Canada's hourly weather report didn't look very promising. We've been
through many disappointments in the past, so this was nothing new for
us. As usual, we took a chance, loaded up, and left nice and early.
Well, for the first time ever, our gamble to go paid off. When we
showed up at Mission Raceways, very few high school teams
were present. In fact, not very many people were there at all. It was
perfect. The gloomy weather report kept many away. Another contributing
factor for the low turnout might have been the fact that it is exam
time for many of the local secondary schools. In any case, we managed
to get in eight runs! That's more than we got from the last two times
we attended High Schools Drags at MRP combined. Most of the day was
mixed sun and cloud with a very small moment of sprinkles, which
delayed the races by only about ten minutes.
The students were treated to a great show at MRP, as usual. Some of the
fastest top fuel, pro mod cars were at the test and tune today.
Hats off to MRP and BCSSMA for making all this a possibility
especially to the track guys who let us watch from such a great
vantage point. No other school is allowed to get that close to the
action.
Our racing season continues through the summer and comes to a close at
the end of September. We will then take a short break from racing over
the winter to start all over again in March. Our plans for next year
includes expansion of the racing programme and will be officially
joining the NHRA. We will also be looking for new members in September
as our grade eight students will be leaving us at the end of June. Our
next scheduled race will be on the 30th of June at Mission Raceway Park.

The Year End Band Concert took place on Monday evening, June 19th at

was a rousing success. Kudo's to teacher Ms. Miriam Rich for
championing the program this year and to Mr. Sakai for assisting with
the grade 6 band and Mrs. Sharon Mitchell for accompanying on piano.
